In general there are several possible causes of water ingress to a foot well, from a damaged or deformed door seal to a blocked air-conditioning drain hose or damaged heat exchanger. We have experienced some fairly extreme weather recently so driving rain or surface water penetrating a door seal is possible.

Unfortunately, this tube seems to be eroding at the end in many cases, and the end of the pipe is ending up inside the boot trim. This then causes water to drain inside the boot trim, and eventually when the boot is shut, will leak into the tire well - most likely unbeknownst to the driver. This is usually caused by a crack or hole in the rear light cluster. A faulty door seal will also cause water ingress. The best way to find the culprit is to dry the interior, shut the boot and then pour water over the car. When you open the boot again you should be able to see which route the water is taking to enter the interior.

I have tracked this ingress down to the foam type seal between the boot handle and the boot. Is this a common issue as looks to be a poor design (cant find anything using search).
